Recycle: Beginning Cycling

June 30th, 2008  |  Published in General, Local Cyclist  |  1 Comment

If anything could describe cycling at this moment it is Velo Nuevo.

After nearly two years the Floyd Landis case has been brought to a close. Slipstream the poster-child of “clean” racing is the hot new team. And Versus has decided to Take Back the Tour showing clips of the former heroes of the Tour de France riding backwards, stepping down from the podium, and giving back the yellow jersey. Its as though the history of cycling is being undone. As though its being brought back to the very beginning to start again.

But time doesn’t go backward, it goes forward. And while some may attempt to rewrite history, I don’t think our memories will completely fade.

The stories you find on Local Cyclist maybe small stories, often about people you’ve never heard of. Bob and Peggy give mountainbiking a try. Goates brings his young daughters to see a stage of the Tour of Pennsylvannia. Atlanta Intown Cycling discovers that critical mass can be a family ride. But they do have what Professional Cycling wants but can’t have; People discovering and reinventing cycling, constantly, without a need to erase the past. Velo Nuevo.
